I Tried to Save My Family, and Failed

And in failing, I found others who still carried the “old timey” values of my ancestors - together, we built Bene Esse: a way for you to save yours

Over a decade ago, I took a leap of faith, grasping for the “old timey” values my grandparents used to survive the Great Depression. I set out to create a recipe that families could use to collaborate and save themselves from drowning.

And I failed.

My family of five children broke apart, scattered across thousands of miles and even wider chasms of grief, unresolved anger, and quiet heartbreak.

But the story doesn’t end there.

Bene Esse,” Latin for well-being, is a collaboration between

’s Future Story Lab and my company, 214 Alpha.

Together, we’ve dusted off the old family stories - the ones tucked behind wood stoves and stitched into aprons - and we’ve rebuilt the recipes for community-scale resilience.

Bene Esse is a self-sustaining model for values-aligned wealth. It's centered in the kitchen, calibrated to the heart, and designed to bring your people home.
